It's official, Labelle one of the greatest soul singing groups of all time (made up of Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash) has reunited and will release a still untitled album in the fall. The group is probably most remembered for their garish costumes and the re-tooled cover version of their hit song Lady Marmalade (from "Nightbirds", arguably one of the greatest soul albums of all time) for the 2001 Moulin Rouge soundtrack.
I could twist myself into a pretzel rationalizing posting this announcement to a film blog, but I think the above clip demonstrates that all of Labelle's theatricality was easily matched by their talents for singing, writing and performing. Which is a balance sorely lacking from both today's pop music and cinema.
