I can't help but be sad about this shark, possibly from a pre-historic era, lived deeper than human beings can even go; was discovered videotaped for 45 seconds and then died.
The seldom-seen 'frilled' shark was first spotted by a local fisherman, who alerted Awashima Marine Park officials of his encounter with "an odd-looking eel-like creature with a mouthful of needle-sharp teeth."
The officials at the park followed-up on this tip and caught the creature, later identifying it as a female frilled shark.
The 1.6-metre shark - sometimes referred to as a 'living fossil' because it's changed little since prehistoric times - didn't appear to be well at the time of capture and died several hours later.
"We think it may have come close to the surface because it was sick, or else it was weakened because it was in shallow waters," Reuters quoted an official at the park as saying.
...
At such depths, the sharks feed on other sharks and various deep-dwelling sea creatures, including squid.

It's a nice article about the frilled shark and it was so sad when this one died. I've also written an article about this prehostoric shark. Click on my name to view it ^^
